We see little evidence of Connecticut’s rich history as an agricultural state in Hartford, which has the highest degree of food insecurity in the state. Strengthening the local food system will both improve food security for our residents and reduce our local production of greenhouse gases. Steps are already being taken towards these goals. Drawing from recent studies, the Climate Action Plan will recommend increasing access to locally grown foods by expanding the network of farmers’ markets and revitalizing the Regional Food Market, while enhancing education about healthy eating habits.
